Stomach Pain
Do you have pain in your stomach that just won’t go away? Stomachache, belly ache, tummy ache… whatever you call it, abdominal pain can be totally debilitating, keeping you out of work and away from the people and things you love.
When Should I See an Urgent Care for Stomach Pain?
If abdominal pain is so severe that you can’t get comfortable no matter how you move, find an urgent care clinic near you. You may also consider visiting a walk-in clinic if your stomach pain is accompanied by:
- Fever
- Blood in your stools
- Weight loss
- Abdomen that’s swollen and/or tender to the touch
- Vomiting that doesn’t stop
It’s difficult to know what causes stomach pain without seeing a physician for an evaluation. Even then, pinpointing a cause of stomach pain may be challenging. Your provider may ask you about your pain. For example, did you have stomach pain after being sexually active? Do you have a sharp pain in the middle of the stomach? Are you pregnant? Is the stomach pain in waves, or is it consistent?
These questions and many others may help the urgent care provider diagnose and treat stomach pain.
What Will Urgent Care Do for Stomach Pain?
Treatment will depend on the diagnosis. Common therapies for stomach pain may include medicine to prevent nausea, reduce pain, flush out the colon, or neutralize stomach acidity. If you have become dehydrated from diarrhea, your provider may put you on intravenous fluids or recommend a rehydrating beverage.
